ABOUT THIS PROJECT

The new owners rescued this Airstream, Rita, and named it after American film actress, Rita Hayworth. A little ornery in her old age, she had to be coaxed out of retirement. They took a beautiful vintage, yet dated Airstream trailer and created a supremely chic, one-of-a-kind guesthouse suitable for a mega-Hollywood star.

Like good wine, Rita was aged to perfection, but her “label” was tattered and dusty. The dim yellow molded plastic vanity and turquoise café curtains had to
go, along with the 1960s vintage 8-track tape player. Out came the ever-so-lovely stinky carpet and faded wallpaper. Yellow oven? Recycled. Beige linoleum? Replaced with soft rich wood. We also updated the faulty wiring and copper pipes for safety.

Custom cabinetry, covered with soft and seductive Cape Hatteras paint. Top-of-the-line kitchen appliances were installed atop a Sorrel Corian countertop that reflects a blend of rich chestnut tones that range from reddish-gold, to deep burgundy, and chocolate. Brushed chrome faucets and top-shelf drawer.

Ceramic hexagonal tiles in the shower and a glass pedestal sink invoked a soothing spa-like chic.  Did we mention the wide plank hickory floors? Custom zinc table and driftwood wicker chairs. Linen slipcovers on the pull out sofa bed, antique French fabric pillows.
