1979 Sovereign 31′ – Elizabeth

About This Project

Client: Businessman

Vessel: 1979 Sovereign 31′

Location: Sonoma Valley

Purpose:  Home on wheels. Twelve automated skylights offer an unparalleled view of the night sky. Two sets of six operable windows — one set in front and one in back. The 12 rooftop windows open and close in pairs with the flip of six toggled switches.

Design Highlights: The international vibe speaks loudest in an authentic Euro-style kitchen. A petina’d copper countertop provides a culinary prep area guaranteed to make a sous chef grin. A mid-20th Century style SMEG refrigerator blends function and technology into an understated statement of true simplicity.

The bathroom exudes sophisticated luxury thanks to custom Moroccan Mosaic tile on the floor and up the shower walls to the curved ceiling. Venetian bronze bathroom sink and shower control faucets, with copper accent bathroom accessories. A surface-sliding barn door provides simple space-saving privacy.

Heirloom furniture pieces, such as a Petite Kensington upholstered sofa, have been placed in the living space to complete the vintage experience.

The interior walls feature reclaimed barn wood sandwiched on milky white plexiglass, with slotted openings that allow for  modest peak-a-boos of light through the 1” openings. Reclaimed wood was sourced from the Central Coast-based Brothers of Industry of Carpinteria. The combined effect produces a cozy space that feels bigger– a magical feat.

Other kitchen accouterments include a vintage 1930s Wedgewood gas stove, an apron farmhouse-style porcelain sink with industrial pull-out chrome faucet finish off the room’s Italian-leanings.

Aged steel sconces throughout the coach are antique oil-rubbed bronze fixtures by Restoration Hardware with 20th Century filament bare Edison bulbs. Push-button on/off/dimmer light switch plates with toggle switches power the sunroofs. A complete solar package with an integrated 12v and 110v system provides ample power, thanks to a 50 amp supply distribution panel that provides ample electrical in an exterior power box conveniently secured on the hitch.

The skin of this 40-year old beauty has been polished to a mirror shine. Four aluminum mag wheels, and a new Zip Dee awning with Tuscan Clarity Sunbrella fabric, complete an exterior that accurately reflects the ‘70s classic styling.
