1967 Airstream Globetrotter 22′

Client: Mid-Century Modern aficionados
Vessel: 1967 Airstream Globetrotter 22′
Location: Montecito/Summerland, CA
Purpose: Guesthouse

Design Highlights:

The owners of this 1967, Airstream Globetrotter wanted to upgrade the look and feel while maintaining the original layout giving this Airstream a natural but modern feel. This vintage Airstream has literally become part of the landscape. Its owners designed their entire backyard around this piece of mid-American art, effectively harmonizing human existence with the surrounding environment.

The front dinette remains primarily as a queen bed in the front, with a new gaucho in the original location street side mid-ship. New bamboo flooring is throughout. Three coats of zero-VOC semi-gloss paint is on the refinished interior Zolatone walls.

The upper cabinets and the bathroom have been retained. The original molded plastic bathtub has been given a rock hard marine paint coating. The loo and lav are replaced with new fixtures in the same locations. New glass tile floor, new toilet, new vanity, and cool new sink and shower fixtures complete the interior accouterments.

The kitchen sports a new two-burner propane stove, with small in-cabinet microwave. A new dual fuel propane/electric refrigerator has a freezer compartment.

Systems include an efficient, low profile thermostatically-controlled AC. Replaced all electrical wiring, water and propane lines, as necessary. Built-in speakers wired for AV with TV Monitor (to be provided by client), along with iPod docking connections.

All window glass is replaced with new tempered glass, refurbished window hardware and installed new window and door seals. A thorough polishing and brand new ZipDee awning finishes off the exterior renovation.

Why so few photos? Innovative Spaces was founded in 2015 when our owner Nate Stover, who was then the head builder for Hofmann Architecture, took over the facility, tools and construction team from Hofmann to continue to grow the business. As such, we don't have as many photos as we'd like of this Airstream, but the timelessness of this project lives on and is a great example of what you might expect from us.
